Is it best to use warm or cold water with my AprilAire Humidifier?

AprilAire Evaporative Humidifiers function effectively with hot, cold, hard, or soft water. Preferably, hot water is used to complement the heat generated by the HVAC system’s heat call, which increases the evaporation rate. Regardless of the water type, AprilAire Humidifiers need a heat source for the evaporation process (either hot water or hot air). When any drain-through AprilAire Humidifier is linked to hot water, the heat from the water contributes to the evaporation, resulting in cool-to-the-touch water draining out. It’s important to note that the AprilAire Model 800 Steam Humidifier deviates from this pattern, as it necessitates cold water—either hard or soft—since the supply water is employed to cool the water directed to the drain.

What is the recommended level of relative humidity to maintain in my home during the winter months?

While balanced humidity exists between 40 and 60% RH, it’s important to remember that outdoor temperature and other home factors like age and home tightness will impact what relative humidity level is attainable and recommended for your house.
