How to Replace and Dispose of Air Filters

To ensure you’re properly disposing of your used, old air filters, follow these steps!

  • Before removing your old filter or putting in one of your replacement air filters, ensure your HVAC system is off
  • Ready a plastic bag so you can capture the dust, debris, and other contaminants that might fall off your old filter. Be sure not to bump or shake your filter when placing it in the plastic bag
  • Tape your plastic bag shut once the filter is inside to avoid drops or spills
  • Dispose of your filter in an outdoor trash can to protect your air from dirt and debris that may escape
  • Ready one of your replacement air filters, place it inside your unit, and once secure, turn your HVAC system back on
