AprilAire Air Filters

AprilAire offers four different filter types: Clean Air, Healthy Home, Odor Reduction, and Allergy & Asthma protection. Our filters are MERV rated, which is a measurement scale that rates the effectiveness of filters trapping airborne particles. The scale ranges from 1-16, with 16 being most effective.

Frequently Asked Questions

MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) serves as a test designed to minimize confusion about the performance of air filtration devices by assessing the minimum or worst-case scenario for a product's effectiveness.

The test evaluates an air filter's efficiency across three particle size ranges: large particles (3.0 – 10 microns), medium-size particles (1.0 – 3.0 microns), and small particles (0.30 – 1.0 micron). While two products may share the same MERV rating, variations exist in terms of initial particle size efficiency, initial air resistance, air leakage, bypass air, service life, and tested airflow.

The standard requires the test to be conducted at 1200 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute). However, not all manufacturers adhere to this condition, and reduced airflow can inflate an air filtration device's MERV rating. It's essential to note that MERV solely assesses immediate performance, and a product may exhibit a lower MERV as it begins filtering particulate matter. The MERV test also employs test dust containing carbon.

An AprilAire Air Filter plays a crucial role in your HVAC system, trapping dust and other airborne pollutants that can pose health risks or lead to HVAC system issues. As the filter accumulates debris over time, its efficiency diminishes, making it essential to replace it for optimal system performance.

Follow these tips for proper air filter disposal:

  1. Turn off your HVAC system before removing the old filter. Running the system without a new air filter is not recommended.
  2. Have a plastic bag ready to contain the dust, debris, and contaminants from the old filter. Avoid shaking or bumping the filter during the disposal process.
  3. Tape the bag securely to prevent any spills or leaks.
  4. Place the sealed bag with the old filter in an outdoor trash can to prevent the escape of dirt and debris back into the indoor air.
  5. Insert the replacement AprilAire filter into the HVAC system and then turn the system back on.
  6. Ensure you have a replacement AprilAire Air Filter on hand for future replacements.

Simplify the process by ordering a new AprilAire Air Filter today. For additional information and tips on AprilAire Air Filters and purifiers, explore our FAQs article.

Annual maintenance is recommended and includes replacing your air filter. It is simple and takes less than a minute. No tools, washing, or vacuuming required. Your Healthy Air Professional may suggest replacing it sooner or later depending on your unique home.
